When you use X-10 products you can turn lights on and off by remote control from anywhere inside or outside your home. You can time lights and appliances to turn on and off automatically. This means the system can deter intruders by making your home look and sound lived in whether or not you are there. 6:00 AM: Alice's radio turns on to wake her up. The radio is controlled by a Mini Timer that automatically turns on the bedroom light to a set dim-level and turns on the radio. The temperature in the room is 21 degrees thanks to her Electronic Thermostat control that started to warm the room 15 minutes before Alice woke up.
6:30 AM: After a relaxing shower, Alice walks into the kitchen and has a freshly brewed coffee awaiting her. The TV is turned on to the morning news. Alice programmed her computer using Active Home to start the coffee machine when she started the shower and to turn on the TV as she left the shower. Using her 8 in 1 Remote, Alice changes the station on the TV, starts the toaster oven, and turns on the kitchen lamps and kitchen fan. (Alice threw away all her spare remotes a few months ago because her 8 in 1 remote can control all of her TV's, VCR's, etc.)

7:00 AM: After breakfast Alice is ready for work. She pushes the Wireless Wall Switch (easy set-up and no running of wires through the walls) and the garage door opens and the lights to her home turn off. She activates her monitored security system to protect her home from burglars. Alice's security system utilizes 7 wireless door/window sensors and a motion detector in the living room. If anyone tries to break in the main console activates a power siren, flashes the lights, and calls her Mobile, the Neighbours and Dad.
1:00 PM: Alice receives a phone call from a friend who needs to borrow some CD's at her home. So, Alice disarms her house by dialling the security system. She then uses the Telephone Responder to turn on some lights and music for her friend's arrival. Needless to say, Alice's friend is very impressed.
6:00 PM: Alice pulls in the driveway and uses her keychain remote control to activate her ActiveHome "Coming Home Macro", which opens the garage door, turns on the garage light, starts the sprinkler in the backyard, turns on the heater, and turns on the living room lights.
6:30 PM: The sun sets and Alice says: "HAL, close curtains, switch on TV". Her command is picked up by her HAL 2000 voice command system, who immediately switches on her TV and closes the curtains, using her Automated Curtain System.
6:45 PM: Unfortunately Alice's husband, Joe, wants to watch a movie using the VCR hooked into the Big Screen TV. Avoiding any conflict, she uses VideoSENDER to transmit the video to the TV in the bedroom.
6:48 PM: As she walks into the bedroom, the lights come on automatically thanks to the HawkEye Motion Sensor.
7:30 PM: Alice hears something outside the bedroom. Is someone trying to break in? She hits her remote control and turns on her Barking Dog. Suddenly, the ferocious barking of 150 pound Rottweiler sounds off in the garage. Whatever was out there runs off!

 8:30 PM: Joe, sensing the need to reassure Alice comes upstairs and starts his ActiveHome "Romance Macro." Details about this Macro are private to Alice and Joe.
AH.jpg (4492 bytes) 10:00 PM: It time for bed so Alice arms her Security System and uses her 8-in-1 Remote to start her ActiveHome "Going to Bed Macro", which turns off her entertainment centre, turns on the hall lights dimmed to 50%, turns on bathroom lights dimmed to 30%, and turns on the bedside fan. 15 minutes later the lights slowly start to dim until they're off. Alice and Joe sleep in peace!
